How it works

Twenty calm minutes, at your stable

Salt therapy (halotherapy) disperses microscopic salt particles into the air, which your horse breathes during a quiet, stationary session. No travel, no stress, no disruption to the yard routine.

We come to you

The full professional setup travels to your yard, stable or property anywhere in the New Forest and surrounding Hampshire. Your horse stays in familiar surroundings.

A 20-minute session

Sessions run for a maximum of 20 minutes using the professional Newmarket Equine Salt Therapy System, and never more than once per horse in 24 hours. Most horses visibly settle: lowered heads, soft eyes, licking and chewing.

Start with a 3 to 5 day cleanse

The recommended introduction: consecutive daily sessions over three to five days. Five days gives the fullest picture of how your horse responds; three is the minimum we suggest.

The honest answer

"Does it actually work?"

It's the right question to ask, and you deserve a straight answer, not marketing.

A 2022 study on dry salt therapy in horses with mild equine asthma reported promising findings. But the research base is still limited, protocols vary between studies and providers, and more trials are needed. Beyond that, most support comes from owner experience and human halotherapy research.

That's the honest state of the evidence. What we'd suggest: come and judge for yourself. Watch your horse during a session, see how they respond, and decide with your own eyes. Yard owners can book a free demonstration on their own horse.

New Forest Halo provides complementary wellness therapy. It is not veterinary treatment and does not replace veterinary advice. Always consult your vet about any health concerns.

Who it's for

Horses that work hard, and horses that are loved hard

Competition & performance horses

Showjumpers, eventers and dressage horses, where recovery and marginal gains matter.

Dust-sensitive horses

Horses in dusty environments or sensitive to hay and bedding dust, where owners are looking to support respiratory wellness.

Veteran horses

Older horses whose owners want to support comfort, relaxation and general wellbeing.

Livery yards, riding schools & trekking centres

Hard-working horses in busy environments. Yard rates make regular sessions economical for groups.

The horses behind the halo

Meet Prince and Magic

Every session we offer was tried at home first. Prince and Magic are the family's own horses, and they were the very first to stand in the salt: our resident testers, quality control department, and the reason this business exists.

Prince, one of the family horses behind New Forest Halo

Prince

One of the two originals. Prince took to the sessions from day one, and these days treats the arrival of the machine as a signal to start dozing. If a horse could write a testimonial, his would be short: more, please.

Magic, one of the family horses behind New Forest Halo

Magic

The more opinionated of the pair, which made her the perfect tester. If Magic is settled, relaxed and happy in a session, we know the setup is right. She keeps us honest, and she approves.

FAQ

Straight answers

Is this a veterinary treatment?
No, and we're careful about this. Salt therapy is a complementary wellness therapy. It is not veterinary treatment, it doesn't diagnose or treat any condition, and it never replaces veterinary advice. If your horse is under veterinary care, we're happy to work alongside it, with your vet's knowledge.
What happens during a session?
Your horse stands calmly in their stable or a quiet area while microscopic salt particles are dispersed into the air for up to 20 minutes. We stay present throughout and observe the horse the whole time. Most horses settle noticeably; many owners are surprised how relaxed they become.
How often can my horse have a session?
Never more than once in any 24-hour period. That's the N.E.S.T.S. protocol and we don't deviate from it. We recommend starting with an initial cleanse of three to five consecutive daily sessions, then sessions as suits you and your horse.
Is it safe? Will my horse tolerate it?
It's gentle and non-invasive: the horse simply breathes normally in a calm environment. We take it at the horse's pace, and if any horse shows signs of being unsettled, we stop. Before a first session we'll have a short chat about your horse's general health and temperament, and we ask every owner to complete a simple consent form.
What's the evidence for it?
The honest answer: a 2022 study on dry salt therapy in horses with mild equine asthma reported promising findings, but the research base is limited, study protocols vary, and more trials are needed. The rest is owner experience and human halotherapy research. We'd rather tell you that plainly and invite you to watch a session than overclaim. Yard owners can book a free demo.
Where do you cover?
The New Forest and surrounding Hampshire, including Ringwood, Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst, Lymington and Fordingbridge. If you're not sure whether we reach you, just ask; if several horses at one yard book together, we can often travel further.
